Just a week back Tubelight was touted to break all box office records and cross the famous 100 crore mark in the first three days itself. Let alone first three days, Tubelight hasn’t been able to cross 100 crores even after five days. The five-day collection of the Salman Khan starrer is as follows.
- Friday – 20,75,00,000
- Saturday – 19,75,00,000
- Sunday – 22,25,00,000
- Monday – 18,50,00,000
- Tuesday – 11,75,00,000
- Grand Total – Rs 93,00,00,000 Crores
Even with Monday being an Eid day, Salman fans disappointed Khan this time round. Tuesday too had a downward trend at the box office which is not a good sign for a Salman Khan film. Tubelight is being made with a budget of Rs 100 Crores and depending on the footfalls the film is expected to do only Rs 105-106 Crores until this weekend. In fact, Tubelight is nowhere close to Salman’s previous Eid releases. Last year Sultan collected Rs 105+ crores over the first weekend, Bajrangi Bhaijaan in 2015 collected Rs 101 Crores in the first three days. Even a non-eid release like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo got him Rs 97 crores over the first weekend.
“The film failed to strike a chord, to touch the hearts of the people. Tubelight was a wrong script. When the drama doesn’t entertain then any amount of fan following and love for the hero will not add value. The logic of loyal fan base is fine, but we should remember that first people are loyal to their money, they can’t waste their money on anyone. Their money being wasted will not compensate their loyalty to any superstar.”
On the other hand speaking to NDTV, trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that content is king post the release of Bahubali.
“There has been a big problem for filmmakers after Baahubali. People have watched good quality movies which have only good content. No Khans, no item number and nothing that we believe may have done some trick. So if a film is good then why should we aim for 300 crores? It can even collect 500 crores! Baahubali didn’t release during any holiday. Content is king.”
Now that it is clear that fans don’t like Salman minus his Salmanisms the film might just die its natural death at the box office. There is no big release this week hence Salman Khan’s Tubelight will stay in the theaters until Sridevi’s MOM and the much awaited Spiderman Homecoming releases on 7th July. Jagga Jasoos follows the week later and releases on 14th July.
In the past, it was given that a Salman Khan film will stay on for at least a month in the theaters but the downward trend might just force the exhibitors to pull down the film and give way to other films.
