Meet India’s Godfather of Movies – Satyajit Ray. The filmmaker’s movies put India on the map of World Cinema.
Satyajit Ray has won 32 National Awards for his films and a host of international awards including an Honorary Oscars for Lifetime achievement in 1992. His body of work includes not only movies but also literary works like the series of short stories on the legendary fictional detective ‘Feluda’. Ray’s films had a cult following and ranged from women centric films like the adaptation of Tagore’s classic ‘Charulata to fantastical children’s films like ‘Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne.’ Other greats by the master filmmaker included – Nayak, Jalsaghar, Devi, Ghare Baire, Teen Kanya, Agantuk, Aranyer Din Ratri, Mahanagar among many others.
Satyajit Ray was born in Kolkata on 2nd May 1921 and passed away on 23rd April 1992. Celebrating Satyajit Ray’s 96th birth anniversary – here is a look at one of India’s most iconic filmmakers.
