Jagjit Singh’s Ghazals and his soulful voice have managed to tide over time and remain eternally loved. Together with his wife, Chitra Singh also a ghazal singer, they formed a team creating beautiful music that music lovers still can’t have enough of. In fact, some of his mesmerizing renditions for Bollywood movies of the 1980’s like Arth – are counted amongst his best work.
Born in Rajasthan to middle class parents who hoped he would pursue a regular job – Jagjit Singh managed to stick it out and follow his passion for music. For which his fans will be eternally grateful! However, his father did recognize his natural talent during his school years and put him up for formal training under various masters of classical music. Jagjit Singh moved to Mumbai in the sixties to pursue playback singing. His music for movies like Arth and Saath Saath have become synonymous with romance, melody and deep emotions – music that instantly takes us back to sweeter and innocent times.
