Friday morning left many in Bollywood in shock as they woke up to the news of actor Inder Kumar passing away in the early hours due to cardiac arrest. He was just 45 years old. The actor who didn’t make it big in Bollywood debuted with Masoom opposite Ayesha Jhulka in 1996. The film did well at the box office but Inder Kumar’s career didn’t quite take off.
The actor then went on to act in various films like Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi with Akshay Kumar & Raveena Tandon. Baaghi with Sanjay Dutt, Kahin Pyar Na Ho Jae, Tumko Na Bhool Payenge & Wanted with Salman Khan.
Kumar also tried to resurrect his career with a short stint in TV. He played the most loved character on television, Mihir Virani from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi before Ronit Roy took over for good.
But in a sad twist of the tale in 2014 an aspiring model/actor accused Inder Kumar of raping her and forcefully confining her at his place for a night. In 2014 a case was registered against him and after spending 45 days in jail Inder was eventually granted bail. The actor was out of work and in dire need of money post his time in jail, he had also claimed that his landlord had served notice to his wife to vacate the flat because of the court case.
The budding actor/model had also alleged that the actor had raped and brutally assaulted her twice in a period of three days by promising her leading roles in Bollywood movies. In 2016 the girl testified before the court about the whole incident, identifying Inder Kumar as the one who assaulted her. It was also mentioned that the model had claimed that the actor had assaulted and hit her with a beer bottle and she was confined to the actor’s house for a night. She had claimed that the burn wounds on her body were caused by the actor who burnt her with lighted cigarettes. The matter is still pending in the court.
With Inder Kumar’s sudden demise there are few members of the industry who expressed shock and grief at losing an industry colleague.
