2) ALIA BHATT – DEAR ZINDAGI
Year after year, Alia Bhatt has amazed us by the roles she chooses and then the way she executes each character in each film. Dear Zindagi saw Bhatt struggle with her family life and ends up going for therapy. Alia surely made therapy a cool thing with Dear Zindagi.
3) SONAM KAPOOR – NEERJA
Sonam Kapoor won the National Film Award mention for her portrayal of Neerja Bhanot onscreen. Sonam won the hearts of not just the audience but also the critics this time with her acting skills. The role of a flight attendant who fights the hijackers and in the end gives up her own life was heart-wrenchingly depicted by Sonam Kapoor in the film titled Neerja.
4) TAPSEE PANNU – PINK
With grit and confidence, Tapsee essayed the role of Minal Arora a Delhi girl who is trying to live life on her own terms. The film broke many preconceived notions about women in society and how they should behave. Tapsee gave a powerful performance with Pink and sharing the screen space with Amitabh Bachchan also didn’t deter this fierce actor.
5) ALIA BHATT – UDTA PUNJAB
This is the second nomination for Alia for IIFA 2017. If Dear Zindagi was a light hearted film dealing with family issues, then Udta Punjab was a hard-hitting film dealing with the very prevalent drug problem in Punjab. Alia played the role of a girl from Bihar and how she goes through the physical and mental abuse, once she lands in Punjab as a labourer.
