Currently at the center of controversy Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat has opened to good reviews and an audience thumbs up. If you haven’t already – we give you Five Reasons to Watch Padmaavat:
1: A Visual Extravaganza:
If a larger than life movie experience is what you love – then Padmaavat is definitely the film for you this long weekend. Palaces, forts and gorgeous settings replete with chandeliers and a blend of colours make for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s canvas. The grandeur is bedazzling, the war sequences aptly crafted and the experience is amplified in 3D.
Ranveer Singh clinched audience intrigue and awe right from when the first look of the film was released. His look as Allaudin Khliji – with the menacing eyes, a scarred face and long, wild hair got a rousing response. And now that the movie is out, one can safely say Ranveer delivers an uninhibited, no holds barred act. As Khilji he is evil, eccentric, ruthless and barbaric to the core. He is also power hungry, shrewd and totally debauched. It is not an easy role to pull off – but definitely an author backed one and Ranveer Singh obliges for most part with unabashed gusto!
Shahid Kapoor as Raja Ratan Singh:
In a film, where Shahid Kapoor’s role was the least spoken about before release, he holds his own with equal measure. Despite his character being straightjacketed, Shahid immerses himself into the portrayal and results are impressive. And he looks every bit the royalty that he plays – his besotted gaze at his queen and six pack abs add for good measure.
Any true blue diehard Deepika Padukone fan certainly cant give this film a miss! Deepika as Rani Padmavati looks regal and resplendant. And fits into her role like a glove. She bursts onto the screen in a hunting sequence with bows and arrows as a brave princess from Singhal. After her marriage to Raja Ratan Singh as his second wife, she travels with him to Chittor as Rani Padmavati. As time passes by, she reveals herself as an astute strategist with sharp political acumen and a mind of her own. She even tactfully masterminds her husband’s rescue when deceitfully taken prisoner by Alauddin Khilji.
Given that this is an epic period drama, the costumes and jewelry in the film are a sight to behold. Both Deepika as Rani Padmavati and Aditi Rao Hydari as Mehrunissa look exquisite and elegant in stunning costumes and jewelry. Crafted by designers Rimple and Harpreet Narula – the looks for Deepika and Shahid displayed Gota and cotton in beige, whites and reds. Ranveer Singh’s look had a lot of velvet and fur in use and mostly dark hues like black and brown. Intricate embroidery, hues of gold and silver and vintage materials used give the looks an ornate and rich feel.
