It’s no more a surprise when the Censor Board Of Certification (CBFC) dictates its terms and opines on what is suitable for the Indian audience. In a recent move CBFC chief, Pahlaj Nihalani has expressed his displeasure regarding the usage of the word “intercourse” in the second mini trailer of ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’.
The trailer comes across as a fun banter between Harry and Sejal played by Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma and in no way sounds or looks vulgar. But in an interview to The Quint, CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani makes it clear that the trailer hasn’t been certified for TV viewing yet.
“We’ve granted a ‘UA’ to the trailer on condition of deletion of the dialogue about the intercourse. But they’ve not come back to us with the deletion. So in principle, the trailer has not been passed yet,”
He also added that the uncensored trailer with the ‘intercourse’ interaction was not permissible on any medium in India. Talking about the trailer being played on various news channels without certification, Nihalani said,
“They’ve downloaded the uncut trailer on Youtube. We (CBFC) cannot stop content on the internet. But we can and will stop the broadcast of the uncensored footage on television. The trailer has been picked up from the internet and is being aired on various news channels. This is completely against the law and we plan to take the strictest action against the channels which have aired the censored content from Imtiaz Ali’s film”
As of now, the makers have released 3 mini trailers and they are already facing flak from the CBFC. This might also be one of the first SRK films to face a problem from the Censor Board. But with the changing times and the kind of films being released it’s a big question mark as to when will the CBFC grow up.
