The name of the hill where Bijli Mahadev temple is situated is called Mathan and is surrounded by Prabati, Garsa, Bhunter and Kullu Valleys. This place is full of mystery and miracles. The temple has a Shiva Linga which is made off butter (Makhan). The name came from the fact that the lightning (Bijli) strikes the Shiva Linga inside the temple every year and breaks it into pieces. Then locals put it back with the help of adhesive and Butter.

Bijli Mahadev temple is situated at a 15km distance from Kullu city. The Trek is a beautiful and dense forest full of Deodar oaks.
