It’s official. Cine1 Studios’ Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde (who produced the laugh riot Mubarakan) have bagged the Hindi remake rights of Arjun Reddy, which were being chased by most leading producers in tinsel-town. The iconic Telugu super-hit that won immense critical acclaim and shattered all box-office records last year is finally being made in Bollywood. The deal was struck last week in Hyderabad and the news has taken the entire Hindi film industry by storm.
Arjun Reddy has emerged as a cult love story for both the audiences and the stars alike. It’s no surprise then that some of the topmost young heroes in Bollywood have shown a keen interest to play the lead role. Over the last few weeks, speculation has been rife about who will bag the film – what with names ranging from Varun Dhawan, Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor being discussed. But the producers aren’t yet ready to reveal who will play the part. “Discussions are on right now,” says Khetani. “We will make the announcement soon.”
However, what we do know is that the film is an intense love story and will have a universal appeal in the Hindi version. “The film will be edgy and completely mainstream and commercial,” reveals Varde. Of course, since it’s aimed at reaching out to a pan-India audience, the scale and setting will be grander than the original.
A lot of leading Bollywood directors are keen to helm the Hindi version but the producers have decided to go ahead with Sandeep Vanga who directed the original. “It’s just a matter of a few days. We will announce the film soon and will go on floors in a few months,” say the producers. Indeed Arjun Reddy has already emerged as one of the most awaited films of 2018.
